When I post a comment, my name looks stupid, like frankwinkerbean. It should actually say Frank Winkerbean. How do I fix?

First off, get a decent name for yourself, weirdo. After that, hit the “profile” link at the bottom of this page. On the screen you will come to, check out the “display name publicly as” area, and choose an appropriate display name from the drop-down menu. You can also enter a unique nickname and use that instead.

I wanna listen to the the songs in the Herbivore audio player, but I’m getting some message about JavaScript and Flash and whatnot. Come to think of it, same goes for the photo galleries. What the hell?

It’s true - some of the features of the Herbivore subscribers site require specific web browser functionality. JavaScript is built into all modern web browsers, and by default is enabled. If you do have it turned off (which will simply be a preference in your web browser’s settings), then you will unfortunately miss out on a little bit of the jazz around here.

Concomitant to that, the Adobe Flash plugin is required for the audio player and photo galleries to load. It’s a free download.

The “meat” of the site (oh the irony!) is always still accessible without any of these doo-dads.

Do you put cookies, muffins, or any other sort of vegan baking on my computer?

Yes, we do in fact put some cookies on your computer. We need to do this so that our system can verify that you are a logged-in subscriber. These cookies do not contain any personal information about you, your family, companion animals, or place of work. They merely tell this here website that you are one of the chosen ones, and - if you’ve checked the “Remember me” box when logging in - that when you come back again, you should still be annointed a chosen one without having to punch in your username and password again.

Do I have to maintain a seperate profile when posting comments on articles from when I’m using the forums?

No madame, your login info (cookies) and profile are good for the entire subscriber site. Any changes you make to your profile in either the forums or in the magazine section will affect the same data. The one difference is that while you may choose an image for your avatar in the forums, avatars are not available when leaving comments on magazine content.
